Get Paid to Build on Algorand with Reach!

With the help of the Algorand Foundation and the Algorand Scout Grant Fund, we are hosting our very own Bounty Hack! We’re looking for 20 participants to explore and expand upon the Algorand ecosystem by building out a list of simple applications. You can view the full list here.

Build in Reach. Launch on Algorand. Be home in time for dinner.

The Bounty Hack is limited to 20 projects. Participants may enter individually or as a team. You can lock in your team in the #bounty-hack channel on Reach’s Discord server.

The event runs for six weeks; four weeks of development capped by a kickoff week and demo week on either end. The Bounty Hack culminates in Demo Day, when everyone joins together on a Zoom call to showcase their completed program. You can discuss your project, ask and answer questions; and cheer on your fellow participants in Discord.

Your mentors for this hack will be available to answer questions in Discord as they have time. They’ll also host public and individual support sessions as needed. Payouts for completion are broken out into the following milestones…

Winner, winner…

On Demo Day, everyone will vote on their favorite app. Everyone gets one vote and you can’t vote for your own. Winners will receive $1,000, $2,500, or $5,000 payouts in addition to the $1,000 reward for completing an app.

But wait, there’s more!

Building cool stuff with Reach is only half the battle. People have to know about it! Participants are eligible to receive payouts for the creation of content surrounding their Bounty Hack project. They can still receive a payout for completing this content after the Demo Day deadline has passed.

$200 Retrospective Interview

Participants and mentors will join the Reach team for a recorded interview on their experience participating in the Bounty Hack. This will include an interview with Reach co-founder and CEO, Chris Swenor. Participants will discuss their journey towards building a fully-functional dApp in Reach. Participants may also be asked about their development background, professional aspirations, and any future plans for building in Reach.

$250 Medium Article

Write an article on Medium (or some similar blogging platform) describing your project. Include a review or testimonial of the Reach platform (i.e. the programming language, compiler, and deployment tool). Their articles should address the following questions.

  • Did you complete your project on time?
  • Describe the primary features/functions of your app.
  • What was going through your head at the start of the hack?
  • What did you do to dive into your project (e.g. review documentation, create diagrams, etc.).
  • The first time you asked the community for help, what were you struggling with?
  • What were the most challenging obstacles to overcome (and how did you overcome them)?
  • What surprised you about building in Reach? Was anything faster/easier than you were expecting?
  • If given the chance to enhance/expand upon the features/functions of your app, what would you add?
  • Any closing thoughts on your project, the Bounty Hack, or building in Reach?
  • Gushing testimonial about how developing blockchain applications in Reach changed your life (optional).

$500 Workshop

Create a workshop for your app with a pull request. Use Reach workshops for reference.

Note: Participants may choose to create their own workshop or tutorial; not both.

Workshops are self-study projects which use a “top-down” perspective on Reach application design, where programs are derived from requirements and filled out from a shell. Students are encouraged to check their programs for correctness before moving to the next stage of completion. While tutorials focus more on examining cause and effect by copying and pasting code, workshops place more emphasis on exploration and problem solving. Each workshop should follow the structure outlined below.

$750 Tutorial

Create a tutorial for your program with a pull request. Use the Reach RPS tutorial for reference. A Reach tutorial should contain everything you need to know to build and test an application. They assume no prior experience with DApp/blockchain development of any kind.

Tutorials take a more heavy-handed approach to guiding students through the construction of Reach programs. They focus on examining cause and effect, immediately supplying context for what students observe after copying and pasting a provided snippet of code.

See this recap for an overview of a well-structured tutorial. Reach tutorials are built like jawbreaker candies: they gradually and incrementally expand upon the most basic version of the app. They show every line of code of the final product and explain it, but often deliberately create more basic & fundamental versions of the application that just contain tiny pieces of the overall structure, so that the final form can gradually develop and the reader can understand each line in context, both from a programming perspective and a design perspective.

Note: contact Estefania on Discord or at estefania@reach.sh if you have questions or require additional assistance on content incentives.

Bounty Hack Registration

If you’d like to participate in the Bounty Hack, complete the registration form here by March 7th, 2022. Submitting the form does not guarantee you a spot in the event. Contact a mentor to lock-in a team (if desired). The last day to lock-in a team is March 14th, 2022.
